Southampton Marina & Waterfront Transfers: The Complete Guide

Southampton sits at the centre of one of Britain's busiest waterfronts — the UK's busiest cruise port, the country's only five-star marina at Ocean Village, the Red Funnel ferry terminal at Town Quay, superyacht berths on the River Itchen, and the River Hamble just east. Whether you are a yacht owner heading to the Hamble, a cruise passenger arriving at the docks, or crew flying in for a refit, this guide covers viaUNO's marina and waterfront transfers across Southampton.

Why private hire for marina and waterfront pickups

Marina and cruise pickups are some of the most location-specific journeys a driver handles. The berth number at Hamble Point, the dock gate for the Mayflower Terminal, the exact exit after disembarkation — get these wrong and you waste time you do not have on a turnaround morning.

Pre-booked private hire solves it. You confirm your berth number or terminal and dock gate at booking, and your driver arrives knowing exactly where to go — at a fixed price, with no meter running while they work out the access route. Unlike ride-hailing apps, which route to generic postcodes, our drivers are briefed on the access points for every Southampton marina and terminal. And unlike standard taxis, our vehicles carry no large taxi plates — which matters for superyacht crew and charter guests.

  • Ocean Village Marina — the UK's only five-star marina, 450 berths, home to the Harbour Hotel and Admirals Quay. Concierge pickups at the hotel, or berth-gate collections by berth number.
  • Town Quay & Red Funnel — next to the Red Funnel ferry terminal for the Isle of Wight; onward transfers for Red Jet and vehicle-ferry passengers.
  • Hythe Marina Village — an MDL marina across Southampton Water on the New Forest shore, reached via the M27 J2 and A326.
  • Hamble River marinas — Hamble Point, Port Hamble and Mercury Yacht Harbour, the UK's yachting capital; Saturday crew changeovers are a daily fixture.
  • Saxon Wharf & Shamrock Quay — superyacht refit and maintenance yards on the River Itchen; crew transfers for vessels in refit are a regular run. See all Southampton marina transfers.

Southampton cruise port — all five terminals

Southampton handles over two million cruise passengers a year across five terminals on two miles of dockside. Each has its own access route, and our drivers know all of them:

  • Ocean Terminal — Eastern Docks, SO14 3QN (Berth 46/47). Cunard, Princess and P&O.
  • QEII Terminal — Eastern Docks, SO14 3GG. A separate terminal from Horizon and Ocean.
  • City Cruise Terminal — Western Docks, SO15 1HJ (Dock Gate 4). Princess, Royal Caribbean and Disney.
  • Mayflower Terminal — Western Docks, SO15 1HQ (Dock Gate 10). MSC, Celebrity and Norwegian.
  • Horizon Terminal — Western Docks, SO15 1AW (Berth 102, via Dock Gate 10). The port's newest terminal, opened 2021; MSC and Norwegian.

Who uses waterfront transfers

  • Cruise passengers — arriving after a 14-night voyage at 7am with heavy luggage, needing to get home or to a flight. We track ship arrivals, so a late dock means your driver adjusts and the car is at the terminal exit when you walk through.
  • Yacht owners, sailors and crew — Ocean Village, Hamble, Hythe and Saxon Wharf generate daily demand; estate cars and MPVs are sized for kit bags and wet gear.
  • Superyacht crew and charter guests — a private vehicle confirmed in advance, no taxi plates, fixed price.
  • Isle of Wight ferry passengers — met at the Town Quay terminal exit for onward travel across Hampshire or to the airports.
  • Marine-industry professionals — surveyors, brokers and engineers moving between Solent yards, offices and airports.

Tips for a smooth waterfront pickup

  1. Confirm your exact location at booking — berth or pontoon number for marinas; terminal name and dock gate for the cruise port.
  2. For cruise disembarkations, add your ship name so we can track its arrival and adjust automatically.
  3. Book early for Saturday crew changeovers on the Hamble — peak demand runs May to September.
  4. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for dock-gate security when entering the cruise port; your driver factors this in.
  5. Plan airport connections around your dock time — ships usually dock 5 to 7am and disembark from 7am. Southampton Airport is about 20 minutes away (viable for flights from 9am); Heathrow about 1h 20 (from around 11am). Tell us your flight time and we advise.

Frequently asked questions

Do you collect from a specific marina berth?

Yes. Tell us the marina name and your berth or pontoon number at booking (for example, Port Hamble Marina, berth D14) and your driver navigates directly to you rather than to a generic postcode. The same applies at the cruise port — give us the terminal name and dock gate from your e-ticket.

Which Southampton marinas do you cover?

All of them — Ocean Village Marina, Town Quay, Hythe Marina Village, the three River Hamble marinas (Hamble Point, Port Hamble and Mercury Yacht Harbour), and the Saxon Wharf and Shamrock Quay boatyards on the River Itchen. We also cover all five cruise terminals.

How long is the transfer from the Southampton waterfront to Heathrow?

About 1 hour 20 minutes from Ocean Village Marina or the cruise port to Heathrow, and roughly 1 hour 40 minutes from the Hamble. Southampton Airport is about 20 minutes from the cruise port. All transfers are fixed-price, confirmed at booking.

Can you track my ship if it docks late?

Yes. Give us your ship name at booking and we monitor its arrival. If your vessel docks late, your driver's pickup time adjusts automatically — you are not left waiting at the dock gate calling for a taxi.

Which cruise terminal will my ship use?

Southampton has five terminals across the Eastern and Western Docks: Ocean (SO14 3QN) and QEII (SO14 3GG) in the Eastern Docks, and City (SO15 1HJ), Mayflower (SO15 1HQ) and Horizon (SO15 1AW) in the Western Docks. Horizon is a separate, newer terminal from QEII — always check your e-ticket. Our guide to which Southampton cruise terminal your ship uses has the full breakdown.
